The Issue

Although being declared a UNESCO World Heritage area in 1988, two-thirds of the lowland of the Daintree National Park was excluded from the listing. With the road to Cape Tribulation now bituminised, privately-owned allotments within the Daintree are escalating, resulting in loss of habitat and threats to flora and fauna alike. Reductions of forest connectivity and increases in damage to pristine rainforest is a serious threat to this natural wonderland.

About Rainforest Rescue

Rainforest Rescue is a DGR-registered not-for-profit and has been protecting and restoring rainforests in Australia and internationally since 1999. It's vision is to Protect Rainforests Forever. It's mission is to Rescue vulnerable rainforests by buying threatened properties; Restore damaged & fragmented habitat through reforestation; Conserve the biodiversity & cultural heritage of Rainforest; and Learn from the forest, sharing & raising awareness.

For many decades, the globally significant yet unprotected lowland Daintree rainforest has suffered significant developmental land clearing and degradation. Continuously evolving for as many as 180 million years, the Daintree is the most ancient rainforest world-wide by far. It must be protected, forever. It’s an extremely unique, biodiverse wildlife haven, home to species found nowhere else on the planet, except, sometimes, in fossil records. From threatened cassowaries to primitive flowering plants, the Daintree is an irreplaceable conservation refuge with 395 endemic species listed as rare or threatened.

With development comes a host of other threats impacting the Daintree’s unique natural value and puts all endangered flora and fauna directly in the firing line. This is the reason Rainforest Rescue exist; to rescue unprotected Daintree Rainforest that’s not part of the National Park and protect it, forever.

Rainforest Rescue has worked in the Daintree for over two decades and are professionals with a proven track record. The organisation is fortunate enough to be now known worldwide in not only conservation circles but mainstream media for its rainforest restoration success.

To date, Rainforest Rescue have rescued 40 Daintree properties and there are some 150 more properties that need to be rescued, to restore and protect by 2050. Since inception, Rainforest Rescue has planted 325,000+ trees to restore rainforests. It also intends to facilitate significantly increased restoration through the provision of up to 150,000 trees annually through the New Nursery and our growing.
